Perth Cycling Routes -Secret Weekend Bike Rides To Explore

Feel the breeze on your face as you soak up one of Perth’s best weekend rides.

From Perth’s pristine coastal tracks to the wetlands and bush of the coastal plains, to the city scape around the Swan River, below are four incredible Perth cycle routes for a weekend adventure.

The Perth Coast: Hillarys to Burns Beach Café

Starting at the North Side Drive of Hillary’s boat harbour and cycling north through Whitfords Nodes Park up past Pinnaroo point.

From there, follow the coastal track up toward Mullaloo beach and continue along Oceanside Prom – passing Ocean Reef Boat Harbour.

Winding your way along the coastal track while taking in the beautiful ocean vista.

From there it’s a short stretch to Burn’s Beach café for a coffee break. Take in the Marmion Marine Park and wilder coastal vegetation on your return to Hillary’s.

Where: Approx 15km North of Perth – Hillarys Boat Harbour
What: Pristine beaches, sea breeze
Difficulty: Easy Going, some road crossings, sea breeze makes it tougher.
How long: 12 km one way, 24km return

City: River Cycle Way and Kings Park

Commence your ride at the South Perth Esplanade, head east, taking in the Swan River with the Perth City backdrop.

Continue on along the river and cross underneath the Causeway. Continue winding your way up the river as it narrows, cruising past the Crown Towers and new Perth Stadium precinct.

Cross the Swan River on the Windan Bridge, then head South back through East Perth along the river cycle path.

Keep heading South past Gloucester Park Park, looping around the river to Elizabeth Quay. Follow the cycle way up right around to Mount Street and see if you can power up the steep, 291 meter accent.

Ride straight past Kings Park to UWA, then back again along Mounts Bay Road. Head over the Narrows down South Perth Esplanade for a morning coffee or sundowner on Mends Street and admire the spectacular view.

Difficulty: Moderate – mostly flat around the River, navigating the city, a slight challenge to raise the heart rate up Mount Street

North: Yellagonga Wetlands Trail

The ride takes in the Yellagonga Regional Park, a wetland system that includes Lake Joondalup, Beenyup and Walluburnup Swamps and Lake Goollelal. This route is located approximately 20 km north of Perth City.

Start at Wanneroo botanic gardens and head south down Wanneroo road down along Scenic drive, winding your way around Lake Joondalup wetland vegetation.

Cross Ocean Reef to continue winding your way around the Yellagonga lake systems or continue around Lake Joondalup.

The West side of lake Joondalup offers a number of beautiful little spots for Perth cycling enthusiasts, such as Picnic Cove Park, ideal for taking a break and enjoying the abundant wetland flora and fauna. From there head back to finish the ride with a coffee at Leapfrogs café.

Difficulty: Family Friendly, Easy Ride
How long: 16 km (Loop), Add on 10km and check out Yellagonga wetlands South.

South: Canning Nature Reserve

Perth Cycling Routers – Swan and Canning Rivers

Start at Canning Bridge near the Raffles Hotel. Take the west-side of Canning River enjoying the shade of the native trees up to Deep Water Point.

Head toward Mt Henry Bridge and continue along the Esplanade taking in the views of the Canning River.

Head down Leach Hwy and scoot onto Bull Creek Road. From there continue down Riverton Drive West.

Perth Cycling routes – enjoy Perth’s amazing rivers, lakes and wetlands.

Wind your way through numerous groves of trees and picnic spots towards Shelley Bridge onward to Riverton Bridge.

From the path along Adeina Road wind through the river flats to Kent Street Weir Footbridge.

Then soak up the shady groves of River gums through Canning River Regional Park.

Continue over Nicholson Road Bridge finishing at Woodloe’s Homestead.

What: Windy River Path, Shady Groves, Picnic Spots.
Difficulty: Family Friendly, A Little Windy, Picturesque and Relaxing Ride
