We spend a lot of time at work. In fact, someone who works 5 days a week has to come up with approximately 260 outfits (give or take a few weeks for holidays, of course!). That’s crazy.
Guys get it really easy, a few suits, some cool ties and a couple of pairs of chinos and they’re all set for the year. Girls, not so much – there’s always the want (and need!) to continually inject the wardrobe with something new in order to make each and every outfit as fashion forward and interesting as possible. As corporate wear becomes a bit more relaxed these days, the opportunity arises for us all to start to have a little more fun with what we wear to work.
We are so lucky to now have all of Perth’s new landmarks, swanky restaurants and hip bars, and the City of Perth has hit it out of the ball park when it comes to shopping destinations too. Things that used to only be available in our neighbouring states, overseas or online are now readily available on our own doorstep. So why not embrace that and treat yourself to a shopping trip while you’re working? I mean after you’ve finished working, of course.
I’ve put together six “work ready” looks from some of the incredible retailers we have in the City of Perth; showing how you can create your work looks using the best of the stores close by!
Look One
The dressy but stylish work outfit | The best type of work outfits are the ones that have an element of ‘edginess’ to them. Leather pants are the easiest way to spice up a corporate look and when teamed back with a sleeveless vest and a pair of pointed heels, it’s the perfect outfit to take from the office to the bar for a cheeky after work drink.

Look Two
Casual Friday | When the temperatures start to drop and we look to comfort for our casual Friday outfits, it’s hard to go past the sweater dress – probably the next best thing to being able to wear your sweatpants to work, am I right? Let’s all fall back in love with brogues too, not only the most comfortable shoe for around the office, but an alternative to the black ballet flat that matches with everything.

Look Three
The Fashionista | If you’re one of those lucky girls who works in a more “fashion forward” workplace like an agency or fashion house, the jumpsuit is a great way to maintain the stylish glam while still being professional. Throw on a cool printed blazer, and you’re doing fashionable corporate while rocking that girl boss attitude!

Look Four
The casual office | Some workplaces, like a start-up or boutique firm, embrace the casual look more than others. When doing casual for work, look no further than a simple shirt dress. Feminine, comfortable and professional – what more could a girl ask for! Khaki is going to be one of the most prevalent colours of the upcoming season, and every girl needs to own a tan bag for those days when black just doesn’t cut it.

Look Five
The pant | For many, pants are the obvious choice for work outfits, so it’s important to have a little fun with them by injecting a print (let’s face it, black pants can get a little boring sometimes!). A vertical stripe is fantastic for elongating the leg and a cropped cigarette silhouette gives a more modern alternative to a classic cut. We’ll be seeing turtlenecks everywhere come winter too, and this sleeveless number will get us through from the warmer days to when the temperature drops with the addition of a jacket.

Look Six
Black and White | You can’t go past a black and white outfit for the office, especially one that allows you to mix and match the pieces with ease. A wrap skirt is the perfect alternative to a standard pencil skirt, and this wide arm jumper top from Karen Millen works perfectly with not only skirts, but simple trousers and even over a dress.

I hope these outfits give you a little inspiration for the curation of your own work wardrobe. All pieces featured in this post are available from stores located in the City of Perth, so what are you waiting for? Is it your lunch break yet?
