Jebediah and San Cisco to headline music festival on WA Day

And we’re back! The celebration of WA music returns this year in the form of the first major WA music festival to grace Elizabeth Quay, and best of all it’s completely free.

Proudly presented by Celebrate WA, the fifth annual State of the Art (SOTA) music showcase will be held as part of WA Day Festival on Monday 6 June 2016 over three stages.

So, want to know what WA Day sounds like?

VERGE COLLECTION | THE MERINDAS | JACOB DIAMOND
OUR MAN IN BERLIN | RILEY PEARCE | THE TOMMYHAWKS

With a mix of nostalgia and new acts, SOTA’s line up showcases the best WA born and bred artists, spanning everything from 90s rock to electronic and soul. It’s a WA sensory experience!

After announcing a short break in February, the legendary Jebediah are back with the best of their back catalogue. San Cisco will be energising the crowd with one of their last festival shows on home-soil this year, while Ta-ku will be playing his first ever WA show with a full live band, featuring regular collaborator Wafia on vocals.

Koi Child will be set to entertain with tracks from their brand new album, while WA indie-rock band The Love Junkies will be fresh from showcasing at SXSW (Austin, Texas) and Mathas will be performing straight off the back of a nationwide tour.

Mosquito Coast will show everyone why they deserved the accolade of Triple J Unearthed High winners for 2015, and Morgan Bain is set to serenade with his sweet soul tunes that have been acknowledged for a host of U.S songwriting accolades. WA bands of the moment Verge Collection and Our Man in Berlin will be ready to put on a show and The Merindas take us back through the ages with their incredible Motown covers.

The festival will also reel in the crowds with the melodic tones of Jacob Diamond and Riley Pearce, the high-energy of The Tommyhawks, as well as Galloping Foxleys, Joel Barker, HUSSY and Jennifer Renee.

At some stage you might need a break to regain strength, so when you do…

Enjoy a licensed area and food market.

For the first time SOTA will be held on WA Day Monday as part of the wider WA Day Festival. Attendees will also be able to branch out from the SOTA Festival to enjoy a range of activities, including sports clinics, circus skills workshops, pop up performances, tours and community artwork.

The 5th annual SOTA Festival is presented by Celebrate WA, and will showcase our incredible WA music industry on WA Day. The collaboration comes in an effort to support, nurture and grow the creative opportunities for local artists, and to further position contemporary music as a leading cultural identifier for WA.

The popularity and awareness of SOTA continues to grow from year to year and is a key feature on the WA music calendar.
