Melbourne Cup tips and odds to help you pick the Melbourne Cup 2019 winner.

Race day is nearly upon us so that means we need to cram years of horse racing information into a couple of days with the hopes of picking the 2019 Melbourne Cup winner.

It’s the race that stops a nation, and no doubt if there is ever a day you will bet on a race, more than likely it’s in the Melbourne Cup.

Spoiler alert though the Melbourne Cup is actually one of the hardest races to pick a winner – luckily we are in form after picking the winner in 2018 and the boxed trifecta.

So the pressure is on us for 2019 to go back to back – but none the less we are feeling confident with our top Melbourne Cup tips below.

Who will win the 2019 Melbourne Cup?

Following the theme of last year, I will only be backing horses (except for 1) who have proven they can go the distance and win 3,200m races.

There is often hype of over Japanese horses such as Yucatan last year, but more often than not are beaten by European stayers who are used to running on longer soft tracks.

Last year I included Cross Counter as my one horse who looked too good to go past that hadn’t proven himself over the distance and he still got the job done.

Constantinople

This year that horse is Constantinople who looks the goods and should be included in all trifectas with the only cons being he has never raced over this distance.

Constantinople looked great in the Caulfield Cup losing by 1 1/2 lengths which helps by not taking a kg penalty for the cup.

He’s the only horse I will recommend that hasn’t run at this distance before. Has to be included in all your Trifectas.

Odds as of 3/11: $8

Finche

Finche is my pick for the Melbourne Cup due to being a good stayer who will see out the distance.

Managed 5th at Caulfield Cup 2 weeks ago but was coming from a very wide barrier, drawn 4 increasing the chances of a more favourable run.

Good jockey in McEvoy who has one 3 Melbourne cups so knows how to get the job done.

Odds as of 3/11: $10

Prince of Arran

Very good stayer who came third in the cup last year.

Prince of Arran has recently been in good form with a win at the Geelong Cup and has drawn well with barrier 8.

Odds as of 3/11: $17

Master of Reality

Trained by Joseph O’Brief who won the Melbourne Cup 2 years ago with Rekindling, can run in the rain and also has beaten other shorter odds horses recently that are in this race.

Odds as of 3/11: $23

Final say: Finche will win the 2019 Melbourne Cup
