#MH370 Reunion Island Wreckage? – Perth Reacts

Perth has been the home of the search for missing Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370 for over a year now, as it became apparent the airline probably crashed into the Indian Ocean somewhere off Perth.

Now it appears wreckage of #MH370 may finally have been found.

After tens of millions of dollars in searching and a multi-national effort based out of Perth, debris found ashore on Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean close to Africa – is very likely that of the ill fated plane.

Fairfax today reported:

American investigators have concluded that a large object that washed up Wednesday on the shore of Réunion, a French island in the Indian Ocean, came from a Boeing 777, making it likely that it was debris from Flight 370, the Malaysia Airlines jetliner that disappeared in March 2014.

A person with knowledge of the inquiry into what happened to the plane said that American government officials and experts from Boeing based their conclusion on photographs and videos.
A French official with knowledge of the investigation said that the object appeared to be a wing flap, possibly from a Boeing 777, the type of aircraft used on the flight.

The official said that the object was about 9 feet (2.7 metres) long and 3 feet (one metre) wide, and that it appeared to have been in the water for a very long time.

Several ships based out of Perth and Fremantle Port have been spending months on end looking for MH370 wreckage in the southern Indian Ocean. Two ships and crew, the Fugro Discovery and the Fugro Equator are still down battling the rolling seas looking at the sea floor, according to JAAC updates this week.

In March 2014, #MH370 went missing in south-east Asia with 239 passengers and crew on board. The story is now one of the most bizarre and shocking mysteries in the history of aviation.
