Are you ready to have your mind blown? The world famous French Canadian Circus is coming to Perth, with the show Kooza.

Since growing from a small troupe of crazy performers in the mid-1980’s, Cirque du Soleil has grown into one of the great international art institutions of all time.

If you think you’ve seen everything that Cirque du Soleil has to offer, think again. There are so many reasons to catch KOOZA when it opens under the Big Top at Belmont Park Racecourse on April 13.

One of the most physically astonishing shows in the Cirque du Soleil stable, KOOZA is a colourful homage to the traditions of circus, combining heart-stopping acrobatics with the art of clowning.

The show opens with a lonely clown, flying a kite, wearing striped pyjamas. Soon after, he is met by a strange postman, delivering a strange package. That’s when you are taken to another world…Welcome to Kooza….

Here are 10 incredible things to look forward to…plus an extra bonus reason at the end!

1. The Wheel of Death

Two devils tackle The Wheel of Death – taking the audience on a roller coaster ride.

The act appears to break the known laws of Newtonian physics, with the performers undertaking a beautifully timed performance or agility, while performers launch teeterboard jumps and crazy tumbles through the air.

2. Hoops Manipulation

An awesome demonstration of extraordinary skill. Combining fluidity of movement, physical contortion, exceptional balance and impressive dexterity, let’s see how many hoops she can spin at once!?

Here’s a sneak peek preview video:

3. The Highwire

The death-defying highwire will leave you on the end of your seat – literally. This part of the show is pretty nerve wracking and you’ll hear a pin drop in the audience.

4. Clowning Around

Send in the clowns… These clowns won’t let you down. Don’t be afraid if you get to interact with them in the crowd throughout the show. They won’t bite, or will they?

The New York Times said, “the real pleasures are the genuinely funny clowns.”

5. Contortion

Watch as the girls from Mongolia bend and twist their bodies into shapes that do not seem physically possible.

6. Skeleton Dance

Day of the Dead meets Las Vegas Showgirls.

KOOZA explores themes of good and bad, life and death, frights and fun. The crazy KOOZA skeletons take over the stage in a dance where Mexico’s Day of the Dead celebration seems to collide with a kick line of Las Vegas showgirls.

7. Teeterboard

Ever seen a giant see-saw that flings artists into the air, where they execute quintuple twisting somersaults? And that’s just the prelude! Over 10 acrobats perform death-defying stunts including spinning 9 metres above the stage and landing with metal stilts strapped to their legs.

8. Musicians

The musicians are sometimes forgotten it the spectacle, but they drive this show.

KOOZA is performed with live musicians, with an exciting fusion of jazz, funk and Bollywood beats featuring two incredible female vocalists. There’s even an electrifying centre stage drum solo!

9. An Incredible Ensemble Cast

Besides all the incredible acrobatics and high jinks, the story of The Innocent discovering his place in the world is deeply moving. The Sydney Morning Herald said “KOOZA delivers in all areas… never fails to elicit gasps from the audience… packs a thrill of danger… fountains of earthy humour… the final scene is as touching as anything I’ve seen from this company.”

10. The Big Top Is The Greatest Place On Earth

Cirque du Soleil has just erected its famous Big Top at Belmont Park Racecourse and there is no better entertainment venue in the world. Kids from 8 to 88 get excited as they approach the blue and yellow striped canvas stretched over the four towering king poles, and get hit by the smell of warm popcorn.
