The September school holidays are fast approaching, and that can only mean one thing – it’s show time.

The Perth Royal Show is an event marked on every WA family’s calendar. It’s one passed down through the generations, from your kids to their kids and so forth, and a giant family day out anyone who calls themself a Perth resident has to experience at least once.

With over 101 free things to see and do once you get inside and cheap tickets across all categories, it’s the best value day out money can buy for you and the family.

Here are 5 reasons why.

1. This year’s tickets are discounted

The number one reason to head to the 2022 Perth Royal Show? Tickets this year are all up to 25% off.

That means all tickets across all categories are cheaper, making the cost a small $57 for a family of 4 to enjoy a whole day of jampacked fun.

All ticket sales this year are exclusively online, meaning no tickets at the gate, so you’ll have to head to the Perth Royal Show website to get yours.

2. There are over 101 free things to do

With WA’s best fireworks, an epic new drone show, hours of entertainment, animal competitions, food demonstrations, and the biggest ever animal nursery, there is so much for free once you walk in the Gate!

You’ll be able to take notes at tasty cooking demonstrations at the Cookery Pavilion and Taste WA Stage, watch a real-life shearing demonstration at the Shearing Stage, snap a pic with Sprint Cars behind the wheel at the parking zone, see flips and tricks at the Outdoor Circus, or be wowed at the new Noongar Six Seasons Exhibit.

Entertainment-wise for the little ones, we’d recommend checking out the Cocomelon multi-zoned activation with bowling, putt-putt mini golf, and an arts and craft zone, dropping in to see Bluey & Bingo during their live interactive show at the Community Stage, or catch the Farmyard Street Parade twice daily featuring some little Minion fellows in yellow.

When you undoubtedly find yourself in Sideshow Alley make sure you don’t miss seeing the gravity-defying performances from the fastest Globe Rider in Australia Jefferson Amaral, performing three times daily.

3. Endless free entertainment to enjoy

There are over 400 entertainers and 300 performances hitting the stage over eight days, so you’ll basically be getting a heap of different shows in a range of categories all in one.

Head to the Woolworths Community Stage to support local entertainers, or check out the ever-popular Woodchopping Competition that consistently draws a crowd each year. If flips, tricks and fast cars are your thing, the Sprint Cars and Freestyle Motorcross take over the Main Arena each night for gravity-defying jumps in jaw-dropping style. Make sure you also keep an eye out for the incredible animal competitions including cattle, sheep, horses, goats, alpacas, dog, and cat exhibits all over the Showground, or head to the Farm2Food stage at AgVENTURE Hill for a lesson in cooking from WA chefs, farmers, and fishermen.

And definitely stay after dark to witness WA’s best fireworks display in all its glory, and get an extra kick with the first ever 2022 Drone Show boasting spectacular neon images.

4. It’s a huge animal and agriculture extravaganza in 2022

Animal lover at heart? This year’s show will see the biggest animal nursery ever to hit the Showgrounds.

The kids can go wild patting and cuddling their favourite farm critters or bottle feeding baby lambs and calves for a cuteness overload. AgVENTURE Hill (as mentioned above) will provide an all-new educational and interactive animal and agricultural showcase to immerse yourself in, with lessons in farming, digging for potatoes, and farm machinery on display.

You can also see some horses in action at Outback Encounters, unearth the mastery of milking at the Milking Station, or pick up some award-winning dairy products from local farms at the Dairy Pavillion.

5. There’s something for everyone

From themed Showbags to adrenaline-pumping rides, carnival games, cooking demonstrations, market stalls, and culturally inspired exhibitions, there is something for every family member to enjoy on the day.

The little ones will be spoilt for choice with lots of kid-friendly fun, hands-on activities, rides, and entertainment, while the adults can release their inner child (if they so wish) with bigger rides that include two new thrilling additions, challenging games, food stalls featuring local produce, and informative lessons and exhibitions for those looking to learn.

Getting to the Royal Show

It’s probably best to leave the car at your closest station and avoid traffic and parking hassles.

There will be plenty of public transport with Transperth’s regular train and bus services to the showground making travel to the show easier than ever.

Trains on the Fremantle line stop at the Showgrounds Station and bus numbers 23, 24, 25, 27, 28, 995, 998/999 (CircleRoute) and 103 all stop close by.

For best value groups of up to seven people (two adults & five children or two adults & five concession fares) can travel to and from the showground on a FamilyRider ticket which allows unlimited system-wide travel on weekends, public holidays, and after 9 am on weekdays during third term school holidays.
