One of the country’s biggest regional Pride celebrations is back, and what better location than famed holiday destination and WA’s oldest permanently settled town, Albany. Located 450 kilometres south east of Perth, along the Rainbow Coast, the city is renowned for its natural beauty, colourful historical tapestry, and vibrant arts, and music scene.

What’s On

With a delightfully diverse and fabulous range of events on offer, Albany Pride Festival will be painting the town rainbow, and bringing together the Queer and Allied community from Kinjarling and beyond.

Expect everything from a boozy spot of brunch with drag royalty, BarbieQ, to a sexy Saturday night of dance and disco with DJ Yanique and Twerk Noir, and Fairday in the Albany Town Square starring more than 25 market stalls, food vans, roving entertainment, a hilarious dog show, and groovy DJ beats.

Not to mention the operatic grandeur of Priestess of Morphine, a Dolly Parton tribute drag performance which promises big hair, sparkle galore, and a huge soundtrack of legendary hits, and a spectacular show from Skye Scraper — a seven-foot tall, high-energy glamazon, and delicious diva who’s been on the drag scene since 2016. And that’s only the beginning!

Theme: We Are Family

From February 22 until March 4, you can expect technicolour lights, glitter, peachy times, and iconic landmarks lit up in Pride colours, so there really is no better time to round up the crew for a Great Southern road trip. Echoing the huge 70s disco hit, “We Are Family” by Sister Sledge, the theme for 2024 is all about uniting the LGBTIQA+ community.

“The theme is about recognising our strength as a community, which comes from celebrating and supporting each other, particularly in the face of the opposition and attempts to divide us,” Festival Coordinator Mille Reid said.

The festival will continue to build on the importance of diversity with 2024’s message extending last year’s “Let’s Get Visible”.

“Understanding our Queer history of holding each other up and accountable is so essential to our community… we’re a broad and diverse group, and unless we are championing every single one of us, we are letting down our own family.”
