From circus to comedy, children’s to cabaret, these are the hottest Fringe Festival tickets out.
It’s the most glorious time of the year. The nights are long, the air is warm, and the streets of Northbridge and beyond are abuzz. That’s right, it’s Fringe festival time!
Every January, the world’s second-largest Fringe festival rolls into town, and the people of Perth are out to lap it up. There are quite literally hundreds of shows to go and see, and there are plenty of vibing outdoor gardens to grab a bite to eat in. With so many shows taking place over the next few weeks, we’ve spared you the arduous task of flicking through the huge program and lined up 10 of the ‘must-see’ shows of the season below.
You’re welcome.
Yummy Unleashed
Let’s start with a sure-fire banger – the winners of the ‘Best Cabaret’ award of Fringe World 2019. Now, Yummy Unleashed isn’t just any old cabaret show. No sir, it’s a gender-fluid, fun but finessed, on-stage party. This Aussie cabaret company will dazzle you with stunning aerials, pole, dance, drag, and burlesque. You’ll be left singing, laughing and gasping (at their feats and for air in between all the laughter).
Tickets are $36.00 to $39.50 and available here.
Fringe World Mermaids Splash Zone
The mermaid splash zone in the Woodside Pleasure Gardens is perhaps one of the most highly anticipated attractions at Fringe every year. The real-life mermaids draw the Fringe festival’s biggest (and youngest) crowd, who they keep entertained with stories, singing, underwater fun, and a whole lot of splashing.
The best part? The show is free for all ages.
You can check when the mermaids are performing here.
Imaginaerial
If you thought you weren’t that interested in science, the contemporary circus performance, ‘Imaginaerial’, will prove you wrong. Sitting at the intersection between science and art, Kaleido Company’s new show ‘Imaginaerial’ explores the idea of neuroplasticity through jaw-dropping aerials, acrobatics, and a whole lot of satire. Expect to see perfectly finessed lyra, straps and acrobatic routines. It’s circus like you’ve never seen it before.
Tickets are $25.00 and can be purchased here.
Flight
Attend if you dare.
Essentially, Flight is a giant flight simulator. Enter the shipping container and be transported to the economy section of an airline. Glamourous. Minutes in you will be plunged into darkness and headed on a creepy auditory journey. This is not one for the faint-hearted, or those with a flight phobia.
Tickets are $25.00 and can be purchased here.
Briefs: The Second Coming
The boys from Briefs are Fringe Festival heavy-weights. Not only have they been coming to Perth for a record number of years, but each and every year, their unique, ‘boylesque’ branded shows sell out ridiculously fast. Briefs is a fusion of cabaret, circus, and a whole lot of comedy, dripping with cheek and nudity. Trust us, anything goes in this show!
If you miss out on tickets, you’ll be very jealousssssss…
Tickets range in price from $58.00 to $75.00 and can be purchased here.
PreHysterical
Grab the kids and head on down to Head First Acrobat’s performance of PreHysterical. The show follows three foolish Neanderthals as they struggle to survive the harsh natural world. Avoiding predators, navigating harsh environments, and learning to work together are all explored with marvellous circus skills and hilarious slapstick comedy.
Tickets are $25.00 and can be purchased here.
Cam Venn – Charles Horse Lays an Egg
The award-winning physical performer and comedian, Cam Venn, is in Perth performing 2 shows this Fringe season. Catch his hilariously physical one-man show, Charles Horse Lays an Egg, that follows the story of an unlikely hero on a lonely space station, who holds the fate of humanity in his hands.
Tickets range in price from $26.00 – $32.00 and can be purchased here.
L.I.A.R (Life Is A Rehearsal)
Just in case you’re not yet sick of circus, mark Strut & Fret’s ‘L.I.A.R’ show in your calendar. It’s an exceptional showcase of special effects, circus artistry and live music that follows the whimsical, incredible, and downright hilarious evolution of the main character, Martin. Follow him through childhood, adolescence and into the daily grind, on a journey of self-discovery.
Tickets range in price from $30.00 – $35.00 and can be purchased here.
Disney In Drag: Once Upon A Parody
Forget everything you remember of Disney from your childhood because Disney in Drag is here to shatter it like Cinderella’s glass slipper. This Disney themed show has 100% more adult themes, dark humour and gender-bending than is the norm for Disney, and it makes for one hell of a night.
Disney in Drag will have you discovering a whole new side to all the characters you love. You’ll be laughing like Pumba, crying like Dumbo, and be introduced to a Whole New World you didn’t know you needed.
Tickets range in price from $26.00 – $29.00 and can be purchased here.
Adult’s Scavenger Hunt By PEDDLE
Not all Fringe events are made equal. Forget Speigeltents and staying seated, because the only seat your taking on this scavenger hunt is on the back of your own private bike.
Do some research, solve your clues, and complete a series of challenges as you zoom between different Fringe World venues on the back of a Peddle bike. You’ll be made to take silly photos, complete suggestive challenges, and engage in some hilarious bonus challenges, so a bunch of laughs is guaranteed.
Tickets are $35.00 and can be purchased here.
