The new generation of totally adorable quokka joeys has emerged from pouches on Rottnest Island, with month-long celebrations set to start from September 10 to 30.

It’s a fitting few joyful weeks paying tribute to the happiest animal in the world, and there is plenty of free entertainment and activities for all ages to get involved in.

Happy Quokka Birthday Party

Kids say hello to Happy the Quokka at the annual Quokka Birthday event in September 2021.

The main festivities will be in full swing at the Quokka Birthday Party on Sunday 18 September with live music, quokka arts and crafts, Australian animal yoga for kids, fun times with ‘Happy the Quokka’, and a silent disco on the island.

Workshops will continue throughout the month with stuff like ranger talks, photography classes with professional animal photographer Alex Cearns, wildlife education, quokka spotting, and bonfires at Thomson Beach.

Aboriginal cultural highlights include a traditional Indigenous dance performance by Ngalak Nidja and interactive workshop, a Dreamtime storytelling yarning circle with Traditional Owners and an Indigenous art workshop.

Aside from all the fun, heading over during September is also the perfect opportunity to catch some oh-so-cute quokka joeys hopping out into the world. Seriously, the cute factor here is off the charts.

The Quokka is the only mammal which is native to Rottnest Island and can be found almost everywhere on the Island.

If all that’s not tempting enough, the best part is that children aged 12 and under receive free* same-day return ferry travel and free admission to Rottnest Island. It’s a whole family affair!

You’ll need to register for all the free events and find the full program at rottnestisland.com
