Christmas time can be the toughest time of the year for many. This month, organisations who help those in most need, like UnitingCare West, are concerned with the growth in demand for help.
A spike in demand for food hampers as we head towards Christmas has prompted local agency UnitingCare West to put out an urgent call for public support.
UCW CEO Amanda Hunt said demand for food by families and individuals doing it tough this festive season was unprecedented.
“We’re doing our best to prepare enough hampers to meet all the requests coming in from across Perth..but we’re in danger of falling short,” Ms Hunt said.
“We’re urging the Perth community to help us reach out to people experiencing hardship, to put food on tables, presents under trees and above all else, give people a sense of belonging, hope and purpose this Christmas.”
Ms Hunt said donations of pantry food and special Christmas items would be most welcomed, including: long-life milk and custard, tinned ham, Christmas puddings, fruit mince pies, biscuits (sweet and savoury), tuna, rice, pasta, tinned goods, pasta sauce, fruit juices, dried fruits and nuts, muesli bars and noodles.
Food donations can be delivered to one of UnitingCare West’s three Connection Hubs:
Inner City: 5/5 Aberdeen Street, Perth or online donations via unitingcarewest.org.au
Outer North: 56 Baltimore Parade, Merriwa
South West Metro: 10-12 Market Street Fremantle
Financial donations: https://www.unitingcarewest.org.au/get-involved/christmas-appeal-2018
Target Store Gift and Toy Donations
People can also play their part by visiting their nearest Target store and purchasing $2 gift tag ‘baubles’, or $3 gift boxes in the lead-up to Christmas.
You can also leave an unwrapped gift under the Christmas tree in your Target store, which will be included in UnitingCare West’s gift hampers.
So Perth supports the work of organisations like UnitingCare West and urge our readers and fans to please give generously at this critical time.
