Aurora Australis seen around Perth
An incredible view just outside of Perth – Aurora Australis Perth
It’s a rare sight but the Aurora Australis has been captured on video just outside of Perth by videographer and photographer Shannon Stent.
“Something that has been on my to do list for quite some time,” Shannon wrote.
“The southern lights putting on a mesmerising display beneath the Milky Way. Photographed at 2:39am at Lake Leschenaultia in the Perth Hills. Definitely worth pulling an all-nighter on a school night for.”

The Aurora Australis is a beautiful atmospheric event, which usually is seen in regions close to the poles, north and south. The light show happens when cosmic rays or solar wind interact with Earth’s upper atmosphere.
In the northern hemisphere the phenomenon is called the Aurora Borealis’ – the Aurora Australis in our part of the world.
This event, filmed in Mundaring just east of Perth, was a rare event indeed.
