Travelling up north soon? Electric vehicle drivers can rejoice — no longer will you have to worry about your car conking out with three new charging stations in Geraldton and Northampton.

You can find two 150-kilowatt fast chargers on the bustling Marine Terrace in Geraldton, and one in Northampton at the RSL Hall car park. Should that be occupied, there’s also a backup at the Northhampton Visitors Centre.

But don’t worry, you won’t be stopped for long. Grab a coffee somewhere (Flow or Tarts and Co come as highly recommended), and in as little as 20 minutes, your car will be fully charged.

These three new electric vehicle chargers are a part of the $21 million EV project, which comes under the McGowan Government’s State Electric Vehicle Plan for Western Australia. The plan will deliver a future where EVs accelerate the transition to a low-carbon future and contribute to a safe, reliable, and efficient electricity system.

“When the project is complete, charging stations will be averaging less than 200 kilometres apart, ensuring EV owners can explore our amazing state without any range anxiety,” Energy Minister Bill Johnson said.

Construction in Albany, Walpole, Manjimup, and Williams is underway with the chargers expected to be operational by the middle of the year. In total, 98 chargers will be placed across 49 locations.

When construction is completed, Western Australia will have the longest EV network in Australia, running for over 7,000 kilometres from Kununurra to Esperance to Eucla. Soon, your EV road trip dreams can come true.
