A significant milestone for METRONET has been reached, with 1.5 kilometres of track now laid on the Morley-Ellenbrook Line.

This first of the rail is in place north of the Whiteman Park Station, heading through to the Gnangara Underpass and along Drumpellier Drive. This line represents the most significant expansion of Perth’s rail system since the Mandurah line opened in 2007.

“This is the biggest milestone to date on a project that will transform our north-eastern suburbs, with works now underway from Ellenbrook right through to Morley and Bayswater,” Premier Mark McGowan said.

The Morley-Ellenbrook line will span 21 kilometres, include five new stations — Morley, Noranda, Malaga, Whiteman Park, and Ellenbrook — and is expected to cost around $1.1 billion. Bayswater Station is being completely rebuilt and a future station is in the plans for Bennett Springs East.

“The start of track laying on the METRONET Morley-Ellenbrook Line project demonstrates our Government’s commitment to delivering vital transport infrastructure for Perth’s growing suburbs, improving amenity and travel times to the city,” Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, and Local Government Catherine King commented.

Upon completion, the journey from Ellenbrook to Perth City will take 30 minutes, reducing travel times to and from the CBD.
