Hotels With Heart trial to help Perth’s most at-risk homeless.
Today it was announced approximately 20 of Perth’s most at-risk homeless people will be moved into Perth hotels under a trial program aimed to provide support and protect them and the wider community from the spread of coronavirus.
On Monday the Pan Pacific Hotel will be used as the initial phase of the trial, with reports that the trial could be scaled up to support other vulnerable people within the community if/when required.
While it is a start in the right direction – reports from the National Suicide Prevention and Trauma Recovery Project state there were at least 200 homeless people on the streets of the CBD, East Perth and West Perth alone. Meaning a lot of homeless people will still be left without support and shelter during this time of crisis.
