Latest Perth COVID-19 – 0 new local cases recorded as we head into Phase 2 of COVID-19 restrictions.

Premier Mark McGowan has today announced further good news for Western Australia in his latest Perth COVID-19 update with 0 new local cases recorded overnight and that Perth and Peel will move to transitional restrictions for six days.

“I can confirm WA has recorded zero new local cases of COVID-19. This is really encouraging news – but we need to keep these testing numbers up to make sure we don’t miss any potential cases in our community,” states Mr McGowan.

398 close contacts have been identified, all have returned negative results.

2,815 casual contacts have been tested and 2,631 have so far returned negative results.

Phase 2 Restrictions

Further eased COVID-19 restrictions will take effect at 12:01am 6 July, and remain in place until 12:01am Monday 12 July – pending ongoing health advice:

  • Masks will remain mandatory for indoor public venues, including in the workplace and on public transport. Exemptions apply including for medical reasons and primary school aged children or younger
  • Masks will no longer be required in outdoor public spaces where physical distancing is possible or when undertaking vigorous exercise indoors or outdoors. People should use common sense and take a mask with them whenever they leave home.
  • 30 person limit in all homes for indoor private gatherings and 150 person limit for outdoor gatherings.- Two square metre capacity rule and 150 patron limit applies for most venues.
  • Seated entertainment venues (eg. theatres, concert halls, and cinemas) can operate at a maximum 50 per cent capacity. This also applies for major stadiums.
  • Indoor and outdoor community sport can resume. Spectators will be permitted in line with the 150 person limit and two square metre rule.
  • Indoor and outdoor fitness classes permitted, masks mandatory except when doing vigorous exercise. Two square metre capacity rule and 150 patron limit apply.
  • Weddings and funerals permitted for up to 150 guests.
  • A patient in hospital, or a person in aged care or a disability facility can have four personal visitors per day. Masks mandatory for staff and visitors.

Geraldton Cargo Ship

A ship off the coast of Geraldton has seen one crew member taken to Geraldton hospital and placed in quarantine – where this morning has tested positive for COVID-19.

There is no current health risk to Geraldton community and all other crew members are reported to be well.
