There are long lines of traffic entering and leaving the park, parking spots are at a premium and crowd controllers are now in place to deal with the heavy foot traffic.

Thousands more are expected to head there over the next few weekends, where a Facebook event page has been created for a “Poke Walk & BBQ in Kings Park” on July 24th and 25th.

The park seems to be even more crowded at night time, with hundreds of players swarming Kings Park to catch rare Pokemon characters.

“It’s pretty much packed down there every night,” Nathan, who helps run Pokemon Perth, said.

“It’s the best spot for hunting and it gets the rare Dragonite spawn point for 15 mins every night,” he said.

App players are also taking to visit many other city landmarks, to chase and catch the virtual creatures.

Activity across the CBD and other areas is massive, with fan group Pokémon Go Perth reporting huge numbers of active players.

The group shared live video of hundreds of players in Kings Park and the stream has been viewed 20,000 times

Pokemon GO is a huge phenomenon, having been downloaded more times than most apps in just a few days. The app is bigger than Twitter, and has more frequent use that apps like Instagram and Whatsapp.

The phenomenon has even been linked to helping people with mental illness and improving physical health.
