Unless you’re up for hours on the road or willing to part with a healthy sum of cash, inter-regional travel in Western Australia has, historically, been fairly inaccessible. But, with the announcement of a new carrier in the state getting from town to town has become that much easier.

Nexus Airlines is a major addition to the Inter-Regional Flight Network, adding more routes and upgraded services, and making fares cheaper for regional Western Australia.

“The launch of a new airline is a massive win for aviation in regional WA, and the upgrade of the Inter-Regional Flight Network is the culmination of a lot of hard work between the State Government and Aviair,” says Transport Minister Rita Saffioti. “The network expansion will mean for the first time in our State’s regional aviation history, people will be able to fly directly between Karratha and Geraldton. This will be a game-changer, linking Geraldton businesses and workers to the State’s booming mining industry in the Pilbara”.

While Nexus Airlines will be servicing a number of regional routes, it’s the Geraldton-Karratha-Port Headland-Broome (and return) route that’s generating the most interest. Operated much like a train journey — in that passengers can book flights to and from any of the four destinations along the route — it’s the first time people have been able to fly between these regional centres without having to fly to Perth first.

Nexus Airlines will begin operations on July 10th.
