Perth’s only weekly entertainment news show, Popcorn TV, is seeking crowdfunding for a new season.

Popcorn TV presenter and producer Bec Caldwell says they team are in the planning stages of Season 2 and they want to bring Perth “a bigger and better show; packed full of interviews, skits, information and a dash of silliness.”

Popcorn says they also want to involve “more passionate people production so that the Perth creative community can grow.”

The guys are looking to raise $5000 for the season. Any Perth marketing professionals might want to consider the $1000 corporate sponsorship package.

Here’s more from the Popcorn TV team.

Season 1: Ep 11 – Wicked the Musical Australia

History

You may remember Popcorn started as the humble ‘Herding Cats Film and Theatre News Show’ – That was a bit of a mouthful, and our new co-host Bec hated it. So, in a display of totalitarian power, for the following season, she changed it all and forced us to go along with it. We’re pretty happy with how it turned out, but it’s given us more ideas.

Budget

How will we use this money, you ask? Excellent question! Film and TV production costs a lot more than you think it will, and our producers are just short of selling their spare kidneys to fund the show. They need those to live.

Equipment: Yes, we have a bit, but we need some custom items for on the road filming

Crew: They’re getting a little iffy on the whole ‘checks in the mail’ speech. We’d like them to be able to afford things like toilet paper and pants.

Cast – How mysterious! Yes, we want to add more faces to Popcorn

A new set and a set designer. It was attempted this season but I think we can all agree it needs some work, we just don’t have the eye for it we thought we did.

Writers! Yes, TV has writers. We have awesome writers, but they have day jobs that we need to lure them away from.

Transport and Location costs

Make up (You should see Bec without it… LOL)

Wardrobe

And most importantly, time! It takes a few days a week to produce an episode, and in lieu of taking control of the space time continuum, we need money to free up more time for production.

Other Ways to Help

Don’t have the cash? We hear you! If you still want to help us succeed with the show, we could still use your help, in the form of manual labour! We’re always looking for people to help with:

– Admin and Sales
– Prizes to give away
– On-set photography
– Social media marketing
– Set decoration items
– Wardrobe
– Catering
– Runners and grips (For the all important food runs and equipment lugging..)

If there’s something not on the list, or you can donate an item or service, get in touch, we’ll make sure you get the requisite perk and credit.

The Team

Bec Caldwell – Host and Producer. Bec came to Herding Cats by accident, as she missed her train one evening and stupidly took refuge at our office. Just kidding, she has studied Broadcasting at TAFE and also has an Adv Dip in Film and TV. She has been acting since she was a filthy teen and is also involved with the online marketing scene.

John Bailey – Producer. An alumni of FTI’s Film and TV Diploma, John is in charge of everything, although we trick him into agreeing to things like ‘Let’s make a TV show about nothing’. He’s a talented gaffer and an expert at questioning the logistics of the production.

Alan Malcolm – Resident Old Man. Actually, he’s our director and is responsible for some of the weird things Bec does on screen. He uses the acclaimed ‘sarcasm’ directing technique and is also a prolific writer and actor himself.

Other Team Members Include:

Jeff Watkins – Editor
James Brock – Sound
Felicity Verdouw – Research and Script
