What happened today at Royal Perth hospital?

Update: 2 men have been arrested, with loaded firearms seized and a suspicious package removed from Royal Perth Hospital.

WA Police Statement:

Police have two men in custody over an incident at Royal Perth Hospital today in which two firearms were seized and a suspicious package removed.
It will be alleged that around 9.45am, police were called to the hospital after two loaded and modified firearms were located on a ward.

Upon further examination, a suspicious package was found in a bag with the firearms.

To ensure public safety, some patients were removed to other locations within the hospital.

TRG Bomb Response Unit officers attended to assess the package and removed it to a safe location.

As part of further inquiries, at approximately 2pm police attended an office building in Hay Street Perth due to a report of another suspicious package.
This matter was investigated and no items of interest were located.

A 30 year old man of No Fixed Address and a 29 year old man of Aveley have been arrested.

Perth City Detectives are continuing investigations into the matter.

TRG Bomb Response Unit officers will make a further technical assessment of the suspicious package under controlled conditions.

WA Police and officials have been evacuating Royal Perth Hospital in Perth’s CBD after a ‘suspicious package’ was found on the top floors.

Major police squads are involved, including the bomb squad, tactical response group and major investigation units. THe WA fire and rescue service are on hand, as well as dozens of media and onlookers.

Streets have been blocked around the hospital.
