Despite injury concerns and another final away from home, will Perth Glory thrive on the underdog mentality when they take on reigning A-League Premiers Melbourne Victory?
I hope so. Glory will be looking to make up for last year’s disappointing finish to the contest, going down in the final to the Reds in Adelaide. Injury clouds are surrounding Diego Castro, Gyorgy Sandor and youngsters Chris Harold and Mitch Oxborrow and coach Kenny Lowe doesn’t want to push the players to breaking point.

A lot of controversy has surrounded the fact that even though this is Glory’s second consecutive finals appearance, they were still not rewarded with a home final. It appears that the Glory team has come to terms with the decision; however Glory fans would be less than impressed with the unfair treatment. 
I think the FFA’s decision is based solely around the sum of money that can be made from having the game played at AAMI Park instead of NIB Stadium. One major point- AAMI Park has a much larger capacity. Approximately 10,000 more seats in fact. Melbourne has a much larger following and interest for soccer than WA. Glory played at NIB Stadium in the semi-final last year, and despite their good season, they struggled to get 4,000 bums on seats. From the FFA’s point of view, their decision probably makes perfect sense. Stats aside though, unfortunately the committed Glory supporters still miss out. 
Castro and Sandor will be pushing to prove their fitness for Saturday’s match, if they get through their tests they will be welcome returns to the squad. If not, Glory will need to look to their more experienced players in skipper Richie Garcia and Michael Thwaite, along with Dino Djulbic and Ante Covic. Perth Glory were the only side that Victory failed to beat during last years A-League competition, and we all know that anything can happen in finals! Victory will be heading into this match as favourite’s but I’m tipping an upset win by Perth. They are hungrier than ever and will be keen to get a piece of silverware in their trophy cabinet!
