The Cook Labor Government is taking a slam dunk approach to support local families in Rockingham with a major investment of $10 million towards upgrading the Mike Barnett Sports Complex. This transformative project aims to enhance the facility by adding new basketball and netball courts and addressing essential maintenance needs, catering to the growing demands of the community.

Premier Roger Cook said, “The Mike Barnett Sports Complex is a much-loved Rockingham community asset and this upgrade will ensure that local residents will enjoy the facilities for years to come.”

Rockingham residents can look forward to an array of improvements at the popular sports complex, making it a hub for sporting enthusiasts of all ages. The Cook Government’s investment includes $2 million for the City of Rockingham to revamp the existing roof and carry out crucial upgrades, ensuring proper ventilation for several courts.

Furthermore, $8 million will be allocated to construct brand-new courts capable of accommodating various sports, including basketball, netball, and volleyball, among others. This development will fulfil a pressing requirement for indoor sporting facilities in the area, catering to the interests of the local community.

“I am delighted that the Cook Government has recognised the need for these additional courts in Rockingham and look forward to seeing them being used by young and old alike once complete,” added David Templeman, Minister for Sport and Recreation.

Collaboration will be at the heart of this transformative project, with the Cook Government working in tandem with the City of Rockingham and local sporting bodies. By fostering partnerships and engaging with the community, the project aims to create a facility that will serve the diverse needs of Rockingham residents and promote an active and healthy lifestyle.
