Sure we can all put money on the Melbourne Cup favourites and hope for the best. Or you can be the one that lives on the edge and goes for a roughie to win the 2022 Melbourne Cup.

Placing such a bet and winning will see you crowned Melbourne Cup royalty amongst your peers. How did you know? Why didn’t you tell me to put money on? How much did you win again? What was it paying?

The Melbourne Cup is one hardest horse races to pick a winner – so why not throw caution to the win and try your luck on roughie?

If previous years’ Melbourne Cup has taught us anything it seems any horse can win, with Twilight Payment at $23 odds in 2020 and Rekindling at $15 odds in 2017.

Melbourne Cup Roughies 2022

Take note of these roughies as our Melbourne Cup tips or at least squeeze them in your Melbourne Cup trifecta.

Lunar Flare

#18 | Barrier 12 | Odds $21/$5.75 (as of 31/10)

Just came second in the Mooney Valley cup and has found form at the right time. Lightweight and solid form on the soft, it’s a big chance.

Smokin Romans

#19 | Barrier 16 | Odds $16/$4.75 (as of 31/10)

Could probably be better odds but didn’t go well at the Caufield Cup.

Has good soft form and should be included for the multiples.

Duais

#2 | Barrier 10 | Odds $31/$8.00 (as of 31/10)

Great jockey, great barrier, and is good on soft… what’s not to like? Unfortunately, no heavy results, and the recent form has been questionable. Given the recent closing speed and past form, we would include.

Knights Order

#3 | Barrier 24 | Odds $17/$5.00 (as of 31/10)

He will want to lead but it will be hard to get out into the front from barrier 24. This horse has had a great year and has won over 3200m at the Sydney Cup.
