At the weekend, Perth Glory claimed their first ever A-League season Premiership.
Now, the push is now on for the 2019 Plate winners to host a potential Championship game at Optus Stadium.
A-League Premiers
The 2018-2019 Glory team secured Perth’s first premiership in A-League history with a win over Newcastle at home on Sunday.
Glory scored 1-0 over the Jets in front of 11,349 fans at HBF Park, via Ivan Franjic’s 65th-minute goal.
Not since the Glory days of the NSL had Perth won a national title, when the club won the Premiership three times, in 2000, 2002 and 2004.
First A-League Premiership, Championship on the line

So, should Glory play at 60,000 capacity Optus Stadium?
Now there’s a push on by fans to ensure Glory gets the biggest crowd possible for a potential home Grand Final.
Writing for The Roar, Mike Tuckerman says it should happen:
“The real question is whether Glory can fill the new 60,000-capacity Optus Stadium should they host the grand final.
They’ve done it once before, when Perth hosted English Premier League giants Chelsea in a friendly last July.
But will 60,000 fans turn up for an A-League decider when Glory’s average attendances this season have hovered around the 10,000 mark?”
A lot more fans than had attended games this season will need to turn up. However, back in the NSL days, fans were able to pack Subiaco Oval for finals games in great numbers.
They’ll need a lot of support and coverage in the Perth media. However, there’s no reason the people of Perth won’t turn up to the a special Grand Final experience.
With a big finals series to come, there’s still a chance Glory won’t make the A-League final of course – they’ll need to dig deep to ensure they do and make a massive event for Western Australia in the potential first ever Western Australian A-League Grand Final.
They absolutely deserve to make it and to win it.
