The path to progress is simple for the Socceroos – win or draw against Denmark and they will go through to the Round of 16 knockout stage.
The same can be said for Denmark if they win or draw against Australia they too will advance to the knockout stage – making this match a must-watch.

How significant is it for Australia to make it to the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup?
While Australia has never won the FIFA World Cup, their best performance is a finish in the Round of 16 in 2006 – losing to Italy in 2006 due to a last-minute penalty. Italy would then go on to win the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
For the Socceroos to make the knockout stage would equal their best performance in FIFA World Cup history some 16 years later.

Just like in 2006, Australia will most likely face one of the tougher opponents in the knockout round.
As it stands the Socceroos are likely to face World Cup favourites Argentina if they win over Poland at 3am on Sunday, December 4th.
