Western Derby : Optus Stadium Sellout Expected for Fremantle v West Coast

It’s one of the most epic rivalries in Australian sport. West Coast and Fremantle have seen some incredible games over the years; now it is time for a new chapter to be written.

The first ever Western Derby at Optus Stadium is on track to set a crowd record for an AFL game in Perth when Fremantle host West Coast on Sunday 29 April.

The final crowd could be close to 60,000 – a maximum capacity event that may go down as an epic game.

Fremantle general manger of business operations David Pitts said the Dockers expect no seats left in the house. More than 11,000 public reserve seats were snapped up via Ticketmaster within hours of tickets in the first few hours.

Here’s what Pitts told media today in Fremantle:

“The prospect of being part of history at the first Western Derby at Optus Stadium has already generated a lot of interest and has really resonated with our members and supporters,” Pitts said.

“More than 11,000 public reserve tickets were purchased within hours of going on sale this morning, which is a one-day sales record for the club for a home game.

“As of Monday afternoon there were only in the order of 2,000 public reserve tickets still available via Ticketmaster and current sales suggest we are well on target to get a record crowd for the first ever Western Derby at Optus Stadium.”

Pitts said the best way to guarantee seeing the first Western Derby at Optus Stadium, other than via public reserve tickets, was to purchase one or more of a limited number of three-game membership packages.

“We believe our three-game membership packages, which start at $75 for adults, $60 for concession and only $40 for juniors, are very reasonably priced and we encourage supporters to contact the club to take advantage of the offer,” Pitts said.
