England currently trail by 106 runs after day two

As day two of the Women’s Ashes Test against England wrapped up, our Southern Stars have already shown some very impressive form.

Here’s the list of the Aussie cricketers doing us proud in Canterbury:

Meg Lanning (captain), Alex Blackwell (vice captain), Kristen Beams, Nicole Bolton, Jess Cameron, Sarah Coyte, Rene Farrell, Holly Ferling, Alyssa Healy (wicket keeper), Jess Jonassen, Erin Osborne, Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt and Elyse Villani.

Three of these super stars are also a part of the WBBL Perth Scorchers. Jess Cameron, Nicole Bolton and Elyse Villani were all named in the Scorchers squad earlier in the year with Jess Cameron named as the captain.

Interesting fact: The Star’s wicket keeper Alyssa Healy is the partner of Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc, who is also in the UK representing the Aussies in the men’s 2015 Ashes series.

Jonassen

In day one of the women’s Test, it was the Australians who were first to bat. We finished up our batting on the second day with 274 runs, Jess Jonassen making an incredible 99 in her first test debut. She was unlucky to miss out on the century, getting removed by England’s Katherine Brunt by a lbw. It will no doubt be a memorable day for Jess, even though she fell just shy of her century, she achieved her maiden international half-century which is a great accomplishment.

England walked away with the overall win the last time these two teams met, which was in Perth in the 2013-14 season. The Stars won more matches in that Ashes series, taking points in two ODI wins and two T20 wins, however England received 6 points for winning the one-off Test plus one ODI and one T20, which was enough to claim the series 10-8.

Let’s hope that history is not repeated this time around and that the Aussie ladies can come home with the win.
