Whether you’re a Western Australian, Perth local, or travelling from afar, immerse yourself in these four WA destinations and discover some of the state’s hidden gems, best attractions, and favourite beachside destinations.

There’s so much to see, why not consider doubling your stay?

Broome

Camel riding on Cable Beach

Renowned for its golden sunsets, pearling heritage, and unforgettable camel rides along the shore, Broome (Rubibi) is Western Australia’s unspoiled tropical oasis. The town is one of the state’s favourite holiday destinations, a pristine meeting of vivid red landscapes and cyan seascapes.

When in Broome, Cable Beach is an absolute must; it came in as the third best beach in the world in this year’s Tripadvisor Traveller’s Choice Awards. A trip to the north is incomplete without a visit.

Another staple attraction for tourists from near and far is The Broome Courthouse Markets. Held in the building’s enchanting heritage-listed gardens each Saturday, the 25-year-old markets host up to 115 stalls ranging from fashion to local produce and arts and crafts. There’s also an annual full moon market, coinciding with the region’s famed natural phenomenon.

In the evenings from March to October, ‘The Staircase to the Moon’ occurs along the Pilbara coastline. Broome’s Roebuck Bay just so happens to be one of the most ideal places to view the beautiful sand flat reflection.

Also in Roebuck Bay is Australia’s most remote brewery, the iconic Matsos Brewery. I’m sure we can all agree that sipping a crisp and zesty ginger beer on a humid afternoon, surrounded by the beauty of Broome, sounds pretty unbeatable.

For those travelling to the sun-drenched town with the kids in tow, be sure to check out Seashells Broome as a family-friendly accommodation option. It’s just 300 metres from Cable Beach and has a sprawling resort-style pool for hours on end of swimming.

Scarborough

For Perth locals, Scarborough Beach is an all-time favourite. Along this extensive stretch of white sand, you’ll find bustling bars, surf schools, delicious eateries, surf shops, and of course, the vast Indian Ocean.

Home to one of Perth’s best surf breaks, Scarborough Beach attracts swimmers, surfers, body boarders and kitesurfers no matter the season. With no shortage of real estate on the sand, it’s also a wonderful spot to lay the towel down and lounge beneath the warm sun.

After a day on the sand, fill your rumbling stomach at the Scarborough Sunset Markets. They’ve rapidly become a significant part of the coastal area. Running through both the summer and winter months, the markets attract locals and tourists all year round. Pop down for a bite to eat, browse local artists, and, more importantly, immerse yourself in the iconic atmosphere of this coastal suburb.

As the sun disappears below the horizon, head to the beachfront Seashells Scarborough, where you’ll find yourself falling asleep to the sound of the waves crashing against the shore.

Mandurah

Western Australia’s largest regional city, Mandurah (Mandjoogoordap), is just a short hour’s drive from Perth, making it an easy option for a quick getaway.

With an estuary twice the size of the Sydney Harbour, Mandurah provides hours of fun in its waterways. From dolphin boat tours to eco-wetland walks and swims beneath cotton candy sunsets, this small city has a multitude of options for water lovers.

Once you’ve spent the day frolicking in the waterways, consider a waterfront dining experience at one of many restaurants like Redmanna and Brewvino. For over 100 years, Mandurah has been considered one of Western Australia’s seafood hubs. You’ll be sure to find a plethora of fresh, delectable seafood options, including lobsters, crayfish, and crab, alongside great views.

Speaking of great views, Seashells Mandurah provides guests with unexpectedly beautiful panoramic views of the Indian Ocean from their infinity pool. Staying here is a fabulous way to level up your Mandurah staycation, with the accommodation being only a short walk or ride from the main harbour area and attractions.

Yallingup

Once named Australia’s best town, Yallingup is one of the state’s most serene coastal locations. In the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park, the unassuming beach town is home to sweeping sights of the Indian Ocean, an epic surf break, and a crystal clear lagoon.

Spend your time in Yallingup snorkelling and surfing your way along the South West’s coastline. Some popular surf breaks are Yallingup Beach, Three Bears, and Supertubes. Not only does the town have exquisite views above the water’s surface, but there’s also plenty to be discovered below. In terms of snorkelling, the town has several underwater hotspots. Canal Rocks, Injidup, and of course, both Yallingup Lagoon and Yallingup Reef are a few places to get you started on your marine adventure.

Being right on the doorstep of the Margaret River Region, Yallingup is home to some moreish places to indulge in food and beverages. Start the day with a divine breakfast on the beach at one of the best seafood restaurants in the South West, Lagoon Yallingup.

Wills Domain’s cellar door and multi-award-winning restaurant overlook crisscrossing vineyards in the Gunyulgup Valley, a short drive from Yallingup. Book in for a two, three, or seven-course degustation lunch and bask in the peacefulness of the South West. For a more laidback dining experience, head to the well-renowned Caves House Hotel, serving Yallingup locals and visitors since 1903; it’s unmissable for those truly wanting to experience the town.

Once you’ve grown tired of craft beer and live music (which is unlikely), or it’s just time to call it a day, head across the Caves House Hotel lawn to Seashells Yallingup for a comfortable stay amongst the lush heritage gardens. The best part? It’s just a 10-minute stroll from the beachfront.
