Based on a true story The Stranger is a unique crime thriller movie that will have you on the edge of your seat and leave you pondering a larger moral dilemma.

The Stranger

The story belongs to quiet single father and tough guy Mark (Joel Edgerton). We watch as he is introduced to introverted loner Henry (Sean Harris).

As their friendship grows Henry starts to trust Mark and ultimately open up about his past. But all is not as it seems. Just how much should these two men trust each other?

At the same time one of Australia’s largest police operations is underway, investigating a cold case – the abduction of a child.

It’s not long before we learn that Mark is an undercover agent, and having worked on the case for a long period of time, the stress is getting to him.

The Stranger is an extremely well made Australian movie that will have you glued to the screen wondering about the outcome.

Joel Edgerton and Sean Harris both put in powerful performances in their respective roles.

The movie is based on a high profile true story. I’m not going to tell you which one as it will give away the ending, and a large part of the tension is wondering about the outcome.

The movie raises an interesting issue – when talking about true crime stories who owns the right the story. The Stranger was told from the point of view of the undercover cop, which was what made the movie unique. I believe that others did not want the movie made. The question remains, with true crime who holds ownership of the story? Do those not directly affected have the right to tell their story? It’s an interesting aspect to ponder.
