Latest coronavirus Perth update from Premier Mark McGowan and Health Minister Roger Cook.

Perth’s latest update as WA Premier Mark McGowan fronts the media.

A man in his 80’s has died from COVID-19 at Royal Perth Hospital as 7 new WA cases of coronavirus are confirmed overnight.

The state’s total has now reached 460 of which 162 have recovered from COVID-19.

Currently, 58 confirmed patients are in Perth hospitals, with 18 in intensive care. The passing of the main in his 80’s now takes WA’s death toll to 4.

Mr Cook is encouraged by the low number of confirmed cases, as again reiterates that WA is still “yet to see any hard evidence” of community transmission.

6 of the new cases are from the Perth metro area, and one is in the Kimberley.

Much needed support

$5.5 million worth of PPE has arrived in Perth for both public and private hospital and medical workers, which will be distributed throughout the state.

Mr McGowan stated “It flew in on the weekend and is currently being assessed, but it looks like top-quality equipment, and we will be able to now ensure that at least an additional two months of supply PPE is available for our health and hospital workers across the state. “This is a welcome relief I am sure for many people working in our hospitals and in our health system, that we have high-quality equipment.”

Beaches to close?

Mark McGowan is not afraid to close beaches if people aren’t following the rules. In a pretty straight forward statement;

“If people do the right things, we won’t have to do that”

More to come.
