4 Tips for Perth Comedy Festival 2021

The Perth Comedy Festival is one of my favourite events every year, and after the tough year we’ve had who can blame us for wanting to go out, forget everything and just have a good laugh. From the look of the line up, just about every great Australian comedian is on their way over here, which makes it really tough to pick what to see. Here are my four tips for the 2021 Perth Comedy Festival.

  1. Gala night

The first event you simply must book is one of the Comedy Gala nights. Ideally try to get tickets for the first Gala. This gives you an insight into new comedians who you might not have considered. I’ve always managed to find someone new to check out and have mostly not been disappointed.

2. Tried and True

After securing the Gala I usually pick a tried and true artist. This year there are so many to pick from – Ross Noble, Paul McDermott, Arkmal and heaps more. This year it’s Ross Noble. I always admire comedians who go off script, and you can’t get any more off script than Noble. Okay Arkmal comes a close second. If I can’t get into Noble it will be Arkmal, hopefully.

3. Gender balance

Balance is important and now there are so many great female comedians on the circuit. This year there are nine female comedy shows. I can confirm that a night with Fiona O’Loughlin is brilliant based on years past.

4 A surprise

Lastly I usually pick a surprise packet, someone I’ve never seen before that will broaden my comedy horizons. This year I’m choosing Kiwi comedian Rudy-Lee Taurua.
