I’ve been buried under a pile of work for the past month so apologies for the late post. My re-entry into life was via the Robbie Williams, Let Me Entertain You tour, what a way to join the real world.

I must admit I wasn’t a massive fan prior to the concert. Sure I knew all his hits and would sing along whenever they came on the radio, but I hadn’t gone so far as adding them to my collection. The concert definitely changed all that.

I knew it would be a great show, you only have to see him interviewed to know he’s a born entertainer. Because of that I thought the show would probably be made up of a few great songs and a lot of time spent bantering with the audience. I was wrong.

Robbie (yes he’s Robbie now) puts the Eveready Bunny to shame, along with a lot of performers half his age. He blasted onto stage, after a clever intro technique that had the whole audience primed before he arrived. He then spent the next two hours preforming back to back hits with barely a moment to catch your breath in between, I’m talking about us now not him. The show began in such a frenzy that forget about Robbie, I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to maintain it.

Thankfully things quietened down in the middle with some tender moments including a heart-warming duet which I’ll keep secret for future concert goers. The song for his son was another highlight and one you’ll never hear on the radio. Aside from the backup singers on stage, Robbie had a couple of hundred more sitting right around the Perth Arena. It was like one of those Evangelist church concerts you see on the tellie.

While the light show was extraordinary, there was no massive staging, no flying through the air, just great music performed by a supreme performer and the whole audience.

As I sat in the traffic jam on the way home I thought that Robbie Williams concerts should be compulsory viewing for all X Factor entrants, it was a 101 on how to put on a show and have the audience eating out of your hand from the very first moment. Next time he comes to town make sure you go.
