Cold Winter for Perth – Bureau of Meteorology predicts a colder than average 2016

Get ready to rug up Perth! Cold Perth will be cold.

The odds of a cooler than usual winter period are higher this year, BOM WA’s Neil Bennett told So Perth.

“The odds are slightly better for a cooler winter than they are for a warmer one,” Bennett said.

Perth has so far experienced some of its coldest weather since 1997, with May temperatures plummeting faster than usual, the BOM said.

“The mornings of the 8th, 12th and 31st were especially chilly, with several sites dropping below 5 °C. Some sites in the greater Perth area had their coolest May since 1992,” BOM said.

“Averaged across the month, daytime maximum temperatures were below average, typically by one to two degrees,” the BOM said on it’s website.

And the trend could continue in Perth, despite Australia experiencing one of it’s warmest autumns on record.

May was also a particularly wet month, with Perth experiencing nine wet days in a row.

The May Stormageddon also carried a lot of rain for the metro area, with more wild weather likely to come.

So grab an extra jumper, a hot cup of coffee and your throw rugs, it’s gonna be a cold one.
