Perth Just Became Australia’s Gateway to Europe, as Qantas cancels middle east flights for Perth to London direct

Perth just became Australia’s unique gateway to Europe and Australia’s gateway for Europeans – with London to Perth direct flights.

Qantas today announced ticket sales for Perth to London direct flights from $2,270.

The changes to routes also results in the cancellation of the Melbourne to Dubai flight.

Instead, Qantas will fly Melbournians direct to Perth, then onto London direct.

The changes to long-haul flights are thanks to the new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. Daily flights on the history-making route begin on 24 March 2018, Qantas wrote.

The new route will mean Europeans will often come to Perth first, rather than skipping Western Australia and landing into Melbourne or Sydney first.

The changes will mean billions in new tourism revenue for the Western Australian economy.

“This route makes Western Australia a new tourism gateway for Australia. We know from our research that there’s a lot of appetite to explore the west, not just from British and European visitors but also from Aussies on their way to London. A lot of business travellers, particularly in the resources sector, will stop off in Perth on their way to the UK,” Qantas CEO Alan Joyce told Traveller.com.au

The Qantas Perth to London direct will also redirect millions of travellers every year domestically to Perth, with Australian travellers likely to use the opportunity to see Perth and the rest of Western Australia on the trip over and back.
