State halves COVID-19 increase from Monday.

The country’s latest cluster has increased by just 15 cases, bringing NSW ‘s total active cases to 83.

It comes after the Northern Beaches cluster increased by 30 on Monday.

Health Minister Greg Hunt said he was “confident” the NSW Government could contain the virus.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said should the numbers continue in this way, the State could be mostly re-opened by Thursday.

“If we see the trend continue in the next few days, obviously that will give us more confidence to look at Thursday and Friday,” she said.

“And we know for many cultures and for many people, Christmas Eve is as important as Christmas Day.”

However, she noted numbers did go up and down and anything could happen.

“I’m pleased with what we’ve seen overnight, but again, it’s volatile,” she said.

“Things go up and down.”

Scott Morrison said there was “good reason” to hope, and that he had confidence in NSW to contain the outbreak.

“We’ve been here before, we’ve been able to overcome it before,” he said.
