Perth COVID-19 Update overnight Western Australia has recorded a further 3 cases of COVID-19.

The latest Perth COVID-19 update confirms 3 new cases of coronavirus in Western Australia.

Of the 3 new cases in Western Australia, Health Minister Roger Cook said 2 were historical cases related to cruise ships.

The third confirmed case is a 40-year-old engineer who flew in on an Emirates flight as part of a maritime crew swap-over.

Mr Cook says the engineer is the 20th case from a Dubai flight that landed at Perth Airport on July 1.

There are now 27 active cases in WA.

As reported yesterday, Mr Cook announced tougher travel restrictions for New South Wales were to be implemented immediately.

Further to these restrictions as of Monday 20th of July, the list of exemptions allowed for travellers from NSW will be limited to the same categories as currently apply to Victoria.

Only specific essential workers, transport and freight workers and people approved by the State Emergency Coordinator, on the advice of the Chief Health Officer, will be permitted to enter WA if they have been to either Victoria or NSW.

With a further 217 cases confirmed overnight Victoria now has 2,608 active cases, while New South Wales recorded a further 15 cases overnight.

Meanwhile in world news, over in the U.S, COVID-19 cases continue to spike with the country recording more than 77,000 confirmed cases within the last 24 hours.
