Perth COVID-19 Update - Mark McGowan

Perth Lockdown: Perth & Peel Will Go Into 4-Day Lockdown From Midnight

The latest Perth COVID-19 update sees Perth enter a 4-day lockdown as a second local case is confirmed.

A man in his 30s is the second new case confirmed today as Mr McGowan also confirmed that the original Case 1022 did in fact have the Delta variant of COVID-19.

Because of the second new case and the increased viral nature of the Delta variant, Perth will enter a lockdown from midnight for 4 days.

What we know about the newest case

Tonight’s new positive case is a man in his 30s – he worked at the Indian Ocean Brewery – and he had a meal at the brewery on the same night as the original case on the evening of Tuesday 22 June and once again, it only involved fleeting contact with the original case.

Tonight genomic sequencing confirmed that the original case, who had visited Sydney, is now confirmed as carrying the Delta variant, the same variant from the Sydney outbreak.

Why the Perth Lockdown

Based on advice from the Chief Health Officer, effective from midnight tonight, Perth and Peel will enter a full lockdown for four days, at a minimum.
