Perth milk – home delivered by the milko

Get out your Weetbix, Perth’s set to get milk delivered.

Are you old enough to remember when Perth had regular milk deliveries? They stopped in Perth in the mid-1980’s.

The “milko” would come late at night and swap your clean glass empties for fresh, full cream milk.

There was no skim milk, hilo, almond milk, oat milk, lactose-free milk, rice milk, coconut milk or soy milk…there was just one milk.

The glass bottles had sliver foil lids you could peel back and lick the cream from.

While no-one should be licking things other people need to drink from right now, we can’t help but reminisce about the simple joy that brought.

Brownes, WA’s oldest dairy is bringing back the milko due to the Rona.

They’re trialling a next-day home delivery on milk, juice, choccy milk, yoghurt and yogo.

The Brownes Dairy 'Milko' is back!We have some exciting news WA. In this difficult time for all of us with the ongoing…

“With panic-buying prevalent, and staying at home becoming a necessity, we know that a lot of families have been struggling to get even their basic groceries.

“That is why we have revived an iconic piece of WA history: the Brownes Dairy milko.”

People were so thirsty for this service Brownes was overwhelmed and has suspended the service to catch up and hopefully re-launch soon.

But we need to be patient. Everyone is learning the new world. All businesses who’ve pivoted to stay alive and/or to serve the community are in uncharted waters like the rest of us.

Here’s hoping they work through their process, refine it and are able to roll it out beyond this trial.

Once it’s back up and running, this will be the process to follow on their website.

How good is it the way Aussie brands have so quickly been able to shift their operations to stay afloat and provide services the community needs?
