Latest Perth COVID-19 update sees McGowan implements border controls for Victorian travellers.
Mark McGowan forces travellers from Melbourne into quarantine.
All arrivals from Victoria will be forced into quarantine before returning a negative COVID-19 test, after Mark McGowan enforced new restrictions.
It following a recent COVID-19 outbreak in Melbourne, with the cluster growing to nine cases on Tuesday afternoon.
More than 168 close contacts have so far been identified in Victoria.
WA’s border changes will come into effect from 6pm tonight and will also apply to anyone who’s flown into the State within the last 48 hours.
Anyone who has been in WA prior to that does not need to quarantine unless they have been to one of the 14 Victorian exposure sites.
More than 18,000 people have arrived from Victoria between May 15 and May 25, with police set to contact all of them and confirm they have not been to a site.
Mr McGowan said the situation was “very concerning” but restrictions were in line with those enforced in the past.
“We will monitor this over the coming hours and days to see if we need to toughen this arrangement,” Mr McGowan said.
“I hope this additional testing regime is all we have to do but I will do whatever it takes to keep Western Australia safe and we won’t hestiate to put in additional border controls if that is what the health advice recommends.”
The move will also affect the AFL match between West Coast and the Essendon Bombers on Saturday, with the Bombers now set to arrive on Thursday and be tested well before the game.
