Southbound Cancelled

Southbound 2016 has been cancelled due to the fire emergency south of Perth.

Roads between Perth and Busselton have been closed due to the dangers of the unpredictable fires. Festival organisers have now cancelled the 2016 Southbound event.

“It is with great regret that we have to announce the cancellation of Southbound 2016, due to the fire situation in the festivals surrounding areas,” Southbound 2016 wrote on Facebook.

“After ongoing communications and information provided from the West Australian Police, Main Roads Department and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, we have no option but to cancel this year’s event. We cannot compromise patron safety and proceed knowing people’s lives are at risk getting to the event.”

All ticket holders will receive full refunds.

“Information regarding ticket refunds will be released on Wednesday 13th January. Please rest assured Southbound patrons will receive a full refund on tickets purchased via official channels,” Southbound organiser Sunset Events said.

The three day festival sees thousands of ticket holders travel from Perth to the south-west by car. Many had already traveled to Busselton for the festival.

Southbound had initially told people to take a lengthy detour to get to the festival. It now appears that route was far too dangerous for cars.

Major acts who were set to appear at Southbound 2016 include Block Party, Paul Kelly, Weird Al Yankovic, The Wombats, Birds of Tokyo, Art Vs Science, Courtney Barnett, Hilton Hoods, Meg Mac and many others.
