Stormageddon 3.0 2016 – Severe Weather Coming to Perth, SW WA

Batten down the hatches, here comes another big Perth storm!

The Bureau of Meteorology released a warning for people across Perth, as far north as Geraldton, south to Augusta and east to Southern Cross and Esperance.

A huge strong cold front is approaching the southwest of WA, the BOM said. Storms will begin affecting the southwest of WA during Wednesday morning and extend east during Wednesday afternoon.




Here’s what to expect:

100 km per hour winds – this could result in damage to homes and property.

Dangerous wind gusts up to 125 km per hour that could cause “SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE OR DESTRUCTION TO HOMES AND PROPERTY”

HEAVY RAINFALL that may lead to FLASH FLOODING in the hours and days after the storm passes.

HIGHER THAN NORMAL TIDES across coastal areas.

FLOODING is possible in low lying areas across Perth and SW WA.

DANGEROUS SURF CONDITIONS are likely between Cape Naturaliste and Albany which could cause SIGNIFICANT BEACH EROSION.

WHAT TO DO?

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:

Store or weigh down loose objects such as outdoor furniture.

Have an emergency kit with a battery operated radio, torch, spare batteries and first aid kit.

Move vehicles under cover.
