West Leederville will soon meet a new local – a bar behind a cafe on a road along a train line.

Back Bar – Opening behind Hylin West Leederville very soon.

Russell and Anita Corr have called West Leederville cafe Hylin their local since it opened in 2014. After taking over ownership a year ago, the couple wanted to transform the vacant space out the back into a bar… and why not!

“Hylin has already got such a solid offering and community vibe, we just wanted to build upon it,” says owner Russell. “Back Bar at Hylin is exactly that…a bar out the back of Hylin.”

Stripped-back, yet still warm and inviting, Back Bar has timber features, black bi-fold windows, exposed light bulbs, and like Hylin, plenty of plants.

Local artist Chris Nixon, who created the striking “Coffee Chow & Cheer” artwork at Hylin, was commissioned again, this time giving a nod to Hylin and Back Bar’s design space. The artist has intertwined natural elements with built ones in a mural connecting the café to the bar at the back.

What eats and drinks to expect at Back Bar at Hylin

Hylin’s chef Tommy Payne (ex el PUBLICO) turns his attention to the bar menu, offering food with serious drinking in mind.

Settle in with Charcuterie or Cheese boards, Chorizo with burnt honey, Cavolo nero and gorgonzola croquettes and Ceviche tostada, or chow down on more filling options, like a Porchetta roll or House buttermilk fried chicken burger.

La Quebradad – Chilli Margarita

The Crafty Barman’s Jake Silvester oversees the drinks program, featuring seasonal hits and shake-and-stir classics, like a Mango Chilli Margarita and Appleton Negroni. Wine lovers will enjoy an accessible menu with local heroes, as well as drops from afar. Two independent beer taps will rotate with a local craft brewery and an old favourite, whilst the bottled beers will be a mix of local, craft and international.
