After its humble beginnings as a timber port in the 1870s, Rockingham has grown to become a fabulous day trip destination for families, nature lovers, and adventure junkies alike. 8:00 am: Early morning coffee and cupcake

Now that you’re warmed up for the day, whip out the snorkel and kayaks, and explore Shoalwater Marine Park. The marine park is one of three in the Perth metropolitan area, famous for turquoise water, technicolour reefs, and a ship-wreck peppered coastline. Keep an eye out for local bird life, resident Bottlenose dolphins, and the world’s rarest species of sea lion. If a guided tour is more your thing, jump on one with Capricorn Sea Kayaking, and revel in the wonder of WA’s unique marine life and spectacular scenery.

12:30 pm: Lunch at Cave Man BBQ or Jaffelato

After an active morning, it’s time to refuel the batteries. If you’re craving something quick and easy that doesn’t compromise on flavour, head to Jaffelato for gourmet jaffles. Or for a big, hearty feed, Cave Man BBQ is always sure to please. The American-style restaurant specialises in burgers and all things barbeque, including ribs, pulled pork, brisket, and chicken.

2:00 pm: Walking tour with In Culture Tours

Learn about Noongar culture, ancient connection to Country, and dreamtime stories of the Derbal Nara — Cockburn Sound — on a 90-minute Boya Kaarla (Point Peron) Walking Tour. With In Culture Tours, you’ll explore the rugged beauty of Point Peron, with its rocky outcrops and serene waters. Whadjuk guide Steven Jacobs will present a Welcome to Country, followed by tales of the Noongar people and their deep spiritual connections with the land.

4:00 pm: Head to iPlay, Zone Bowling, or Hey Caddy

If you’ve still got energy to burn, unleash your competitive nature with an afternoon of games at the newly renovated iPlay Rockingham. But if bowling and arcade games are more your thing, head to Zone Bowling. Or for an 18 hole mini-golf course that takes you on a journey around the world, from the streets of New York to the uncharted terrain of Mars, head to Hey Caddy — Rockingham’s newest family experience.

5:30 pm: Visit Churchill Park 

Finish the day’s activities with a visit to the verdant shady grounds of Churchill Park, on Rockingham Beach Foreshore. Entertain the little ones with Rockingham Play Trails — a digital scavenger hunt adventure. As a family, you’ll visit various trail locations across the city to unlock challenges, solve quiz questions, and score points.

7:00 pm: Enjoy dinner at Rockingham Beach Foreshore

If you’re feeling hunger pangs after a long day of exploration, pick a café or restaurant for dinner along the Rockingham Beach Foreshore. Sit back and relax as the kids play on the beach while the sun makes its descent into the ocean. A couple of crowd favourites include Palm Beach Café — a staple along the Rockingham café strip, or The Knock Restaurant. The oceanfront Eight on the Beach, and seafood hard-hitter Latitude 32 are also great options.

8:00 pm: Stay the night
