Pizza is one of those foods that we all love, even if we don’t always admit it. It’s simple, cheesy goodness that is best described as happiness in a box. We regularly talk about the best pizza places in Perth and we’re fortunate to have some really good pizzerias to choose from — a few of our favourites are Alfred’s, Monsterella, and King Somm.
As of this week, a new pizza place has opened in Rivervale on the ground floor of Aloft hotel — 450° Pizza — that’s aiming to take that crown of ‘So Perth’s favourite pizza place.’ We haven’t visited them to taste the pizzas yet, but we’ll be there next week and will let you know how they stack up.
Until then, here’s what we know.
What can you expect?
Before we get into what you can expect from the pizza, why 450° Pizza? A circle — also known as ‘the pizza shape’ — is 360° so it’s not that. 450° is said to be the temperature a wood-fired oven needs to be to cook the perfect pizza. That’s the temperature their woodfired ovens are set to operate and where the name has come from.
Okay, now back to the important topic of the pizzas themselves. The menu is full of all the pizza toppings you’d expect from a wood-fired pizza place — from spicy pepperoni to prosciutto, prawns, and lots of mozzarella. That’s usually enough to get us excited and salivating a little.
However, that’s not what really grabbed our attention.
Something that we often comment on when perusing pizza menus is that very rarely is a calzone of any description included. For those who’ve never tried one, calzones are probably the only thing in the world that’s better than a pizza. Okay, that might be an exaggeration. Think of a pizza folded in half before being placed in the oven, loaded with cheese and toppings. They’re simply delicious. And 450° Pizza is serving one up called the Calzone Capricciosa with smoked ham, mushrooms, fresh oregano, bocconcini and pecorino.
For those who aren’t as excited about calzones as we are, that’s okay. We understand.
450° Pizza is also serving up gluten-free bases and vegan cheese.
Head Chef Vincy Silveira told So Perth “we have ensured we are able to cater to almost every dietary requirement including GF bases and vegan cheese.”
“Pizza is a communal dish and is best shared amongst company, so we want as many people [as possible] to enjoy a slice of 450° Pizza!”
