Synonymous with fine cheese, award-winning wine and verdant rolling hills, Destination Harvey Region is a destination where pristine natural beauty, outdoor adventure and exceptional local produce collide. Adorned with lush hinterland, more than 42 kilometres of Indian Ocean coastline and some of the state’s most beautiful — and lesser-frequented — waterways, the charming town in WA’s South West is the perfect place for a cosy autumn getaway. Perched 140 kilometres south of Perth, — or 90 minutes by car — it’s close enough for a convenient weekend getaway. Yet far enough to feel as though you’re worlds away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

While the region is often considered a scenic thoroughfare en route to Margaret River, it’s a destination deserving of discovery. Here are some of the best things to eat and do while you’re there.

Stay

Lake Brockman Tourist Park

For a nature-infused stay, tucked away in the blissful surroundings of the state forest, check into the adults-only glamping retreat at Lake Brockman Tourist Park. Conveniently located only 10 minutes from the Harvey townsite, the two-person tents overlook the crystal clear waters of Logue Brook Dam and feature a queen bed, and private balcony with a barbeque and fire pit. Here, you’re invited to explore the adventure mecca. Bring your canoe to while away the hours, try your hand at fishing for trout or marron, or swim in the freshwater dam.

Dine

While the drinks list covers everything from shakes and smoothies to coffee and cold-pressed juice.

Harvey Fish and Chips

Is there anything more quintessentially Australian than fish and chips? Known for their lip-smacking golden batters and quality seafood crisped to perfection, Harvey Fish and Chips is a favourite dining establishment for locals and blow-ins alike. There’s no better place to grab a hearty feed after a wholesome day of exploration and adventure.
