After a $30 million refurbishment, Swan Active Midland is reopening its doors in a grand celebratory event to showcase the brand new gym that is four times the size of the original, enhanced facilities, and upgraded indoor sports courts and pools.
What’s on at the grand re-opening
The City of Swan will be hosting a free, grand reopening on Saturday, May 11th to celebrate the occasion. The event will kick off with a show-stopping daylight fireworks display at 10:00 am, followed by four hours of jam-packed fun and amusement.
Expect fun for the whole family with huge inflatable challenges, and entertainment in the form of DJs, airbrush tattoos, face painting, and even a real-life mermaid.
Rock on to the tunes of AC/DC and INXS tribute bands, while you indulge in bottomless gelato and food truck fare. Not to mention plenty of fitness fun with group classes and sports activations, a scavenger hunt, tours, giveaways, and prizes!
What to expect from Swan Active Midland
State-of-the-art gym
Fitness fanatics will feel right at home in the new and improved Swan Active Midland, which features a state-of-the-art gym with digital integration, change rooms and an appraisal room. With 650 square metres of floor space, the new iteration is four times larger than the old one, brimming with a huge array of premium Technogym equipment and refreshing natural light from Swan Regional Recreation Park. Here, you’ll find all of the typical workout equipment, as well as a specialised functional training area. Unlike many other gyms, there’s a tailored approach to the customer experience. Members have access to free consultations, measurements, and a range of programs. What more could you want from a gym?
Renovated pool
The renovated pool spaces feature improved accessibility, with new ramps and stairs to enhance the member experience. The indoor lap pool now has depths varying from one to 1.7 metres, providing both walking lanes and a family-friendly space. The leisure pool boasts new water play features, while the new spa and sauna have improved access with wheelchair space and adequate room for manoeuvring.
Wellness room
More and more people are discovering the benefits of mindfulness. To accommodate the growing popularity of activities like yoga, Pilates, and meditation, Swan Active Midland have created a stunning new wellness room. Adorned with tasteful finishes and mood lighting, the space has been curated to promote a peaceful atmosphere for members to escape their daily grind. Here, you can expect relaxation in the form of sound healing, meditation, and a range of yoga programs including mums and bubs, chair yoga, hatha yoga, and yoga nidra.
Group fitness room
Now, more than ever, Swan Active Midland is your one-stop shop for physical, mental, and social wellness. The group fitness room has been revamped with premium lighting, air-conditioning, and sound. Spanning more than 280 square metres, there’s ample space for people to move and work up a sweat. The group fitness room program includes the likes of hip hop, TYGRA and Get Low Seniors. Social sports and courts
The $30 million refurbishment also included a comprehensive upgrade of the indoor sports courts, headlined by new sprung timber flooring and enhanced ventilation. This means basketball games will be played on a competition-grade surface. It’s not all about basketball, though. The courts can be used for a variety of sports, including netball, indoor soccer (futsal), volleyball, and badminton. There has also been a full reconfiguration and refurbishment of the change facilities to better meet the needs of members.
Café
The brand new café is bound to be one of the most popular elements of the refurbished Swan Active Midland. The furnishings and finishings are bright, modern, and stylish, and peppered with indoor plants. Whether you want to grab a quick snack from the serving window after a workout or treat yourself to something more substantial, the eatery has you covered. Set near the main entrance, (where the gym used to be) the café has a large kitchen, and a spacious indoor and semi-alfresco area. There’s plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, from small tables to booths and a long central table. While the café experience will be entirely different to the previous one, you can rest assured because the classic hot chips will still be on the menu!
Crèche
Little ones will have a whole new crèche to explore, complete with interactive outdoor play equipment. The design and fit-out can accommodate up to 40 children and aims to strike a balance between stimulating and calming with a flora and fauna theme and soft pastel palette. The welcoming indoor and outdoor play areas are complemented by plenty of desk space and seating, where children can enjoy quiet activities. Not to mention spacious new changing and toilet facilities. The design also has a strong focus on the security and safety of the children, who can stay for up to two hours per day while a parent or guardian is at Swan Active Midland.
