Volstead Lounge – A new secret speakeasy jazz bar is launching this week from the brains behind Convenients.

Perth, get ready to welcome a brand spanking new secret bar to the nightlife scene.

The Voltstead Lounge is entering the scene as the newest project from the masterminds behind Convenients. In contrast to the current rock and roll diver bar, Voltstead will remain true to the origins of its home in the old Laneway Lounge as an opulent jazz and cocktail bar inspired by the prohibition era. It’s everything roaring 20’s and it’s ready to wow with the soothing sounds of Jazz and dim-lit interior.

Taking its name from the man responsible for penning the legislation behind the infamous National Prohibition Act in 1920 US, Andrew Volstead, it opens its doors to the public this Thursday and celebrates in style with an opening party on Saturday 18 December.

What’s On The Menu

Indulge in a carefully curated cocktail list of classics and creative in-house concoctions. I’m talking things like a Smoked Verrazano, Charcoal Tommy and Hibiscus Whisky Sour.

When you’re feeling peckish pull up a chair and feast on a delightful menu with dishes designed to share, such as a 90-day butter aged ribeye with chimichurri and smoked duck fat potatoes, skirt steak tacos and pulled pork jaffles with house-made apple sauce. If you want to really enjoy an indulgent experience score yourself a private, velvet draped VIP booth with table service.

Enjoy Live Music & Entertainment

As with Convenients, Voltstead will provide the opportunity for artists to perform with a rotating line up Thursday-Saturday of live music and cabaret entertainment inspired by the songs of the past.

So, Where Is It?

Telling you exactly where to find it wouldn’t be very ‘hidden bar’ of us, so all we’ll say is that it’s tucked down an unassuming alley opposite Shafto Lane in the heart of Perth’s CBD where the old Laneway Lounge used to sit (but if you’re really clueless, just scroll down).

In true secret bar fashion, you’ll have to scan the shelves of Andrew Volstead’s study to find the right book to pull down so you can get inside.
