Best way to view Geminids meteor shower in Perth.
Starting 10pm on Sunday, December 13 Perth’s night sky will light up with the Geminids meteor shower.
Space enthusiasts have no doubt had this week marked on the calendar all year.
This Sunday the peak of the Geminids meteor shower will light up the night sky across Australia on Sunday evening and into Monday morning with up to 120 ‘shooting stars’ every hour.
How to view Geminids meteor shower
You don’t need any special equipment to view the Geminids, however, experts recommend finding a dark area away from light pollution.
You should sit or lay down outside for at least 15 to 20 minutes to let your eyes adjust to the dark sky. While your eyes will start to adjust straight away, you’ll need this time to allow your eyes to fully adjust.
You could also download the Night Sky App – a stargazing reference app, where the user can explore a virtual representation of the night sky to identify stars, planets, constellations, satellites and more.
