Jamie’s Italian Australia in partnership with Jamie’s Ministry of Food are opening their doors to families doing it tough this Christmas Day to host a free charity lunch in their venues, and are calling on the community to lend a hand if they can.

They are looking for amazing volunteers from the community who can pop into their local Jamie’s Italian venue and give up a little of their time on Christmas Day.

Volunteer jobs on the day include helping to serve, clear tables, wash dishes or even be the big man himself and don the Santa costume to help bring the Christmas cheer.

“With an abundance of food, family and good times, Christmas is the highlight of the year for so many of us, but for others it can be a time of stress, loneliness and sadness,” said Marlon Kigonya, General Manager of Jamie’s Italian Australia.

“We’re passionate about our communities. We don’t want to see people miss out, feel the financial pressure or be alone on Christmas Day, so we’re giving back in the Italian way – by pulling up extra seats and welcoming people into our family,” Kigonya continued.

We understand that our volunteers may have places to be, so by keeping the tasks simple – no need for any hospitality experience – and the shifts short, we hope to have plenty of people rolling up their sleeves to pitch in around the country.”

Jamie’s Ministry of Food will be inviting families in their networks to come in for lunch on Christmas Day and enjoy the festivities together.

Amy Smith, CEO of The Good Foundation who facilitates the Jamie’s Ministry of Food program in Australia said, “We spend the year working in our communities to teach families cooking and nutritional skills that help to make food budgets stretch further in underprivileged households whilst still being nutritionally balanced.”

Smith continued, “Being able to invite these families that we have worked with throughout the year and share a nutritionally rich, festive lunch with all the trimmings that may otherwise put financial pressure on their households is a real treat, something we are excited to be able to offer thanks to Jamie’s Italian Australia.”
