Escape to the best bookstores in Perth to find your next page turner
In this fast-paced, crazy world of ours, there’s nothing better than taking some time out and curling up on the couch with a book and cup of tea in hand.
The smell of book pages might just be the best scent in the world, and even though we live in a now electronic world with stories at the touch of a fingertip nothing can beat the real thing.
Being the dedicated bookworm that I am, I love to scan the shelves of my fave bookstore for my next great read- and believe me, I could be in there for hours.
Here are the best, coziest little bookstores in Perth to grab a book (or ten).
Planet Books
Mount Lawley & Northbridge
At the top of our list has to be the quirky, vibrant and iconic Planet Books on Beaufort Street.
No matter what you’re into, it has it all with an impressive fiction and non-fiction collection and everything from classics to the more modern. It’s a bit left of centre, totally unique and a go-to for all your reading desires.
They also have a store in Northbridge that opened up in 2016 which is equally as awesome.
The Lane Bookshop
52c Old Theatre Lane, Claremont WA 6010
The Lane Bookshop carries a variety of books by local, national and international authors so you’ll be spoilt for choice in amongst the shelves here. Its old-style shopfront gives off a London feel and opens into a cozy little shop full of the best reads.
It’s the perfect little haven for book lovers full of knowledgeable staff who love giving out their brilliant recommendations to take the work out of finding that perfect book. Can’t find what you like? They’ll be happy to order it in for you.
Diabolik Books And Records

Not just a bookshop, Diabolik Books And Records is a funky little shop selling a range of books and records.
They’ve got a quality selection of comic books and graphic novels if you’re into that plus a gift section and some banging records to expand your collection.
Bodhi Tree Bookstore Cafe

The atmosphere at Bodhi Tree Bookstore Cafe is complete serenity. It’s the perfect joint to go if you want to find something uplifting and inspiring to read.
The best part? They also have a cafe with wholesome food and soul-warming organic coffee so you can sit back and relax with one of their pre-loved books while having a cuppa.
All the books here are carefully selected with a vision to raise the consciousness and well-being of the community, so you know you’re in super good hands.
Millpoint Caffe Bookshop
254 Mill Point Rd, South Perth WA 6151
It’s hard to miss the purple walls of Millpoint Caffee Bookshop tucked away in South Perth.
Oozing culture, this place has a range of books to enjoy along with great food and gourmet coffee so you can take a seat amongst the shelves for a bite with a book in hand.
Be sure to book if you’re heading in on the weekend, it can get a little crowded.
Pulp Fiction Book Exchange
Floreat & Hillarys
It may seem a little daunting in Pulp Fiction Book Exchange with wall-to-ceiling shelves on every corner, but it’s worth digging through this treasure trove of new and used books to find some hidden gems.
Their books are affordable and the staff know their stuff. They’ve recently opened up shop in Westfield Whitfords for all my north of the river readers to check out- you’ll probably need a good hour or so.
Crow Books
1/900 Albany Hwy, East Victoria Park WA 6101
Literature lovers will find their sanctuary at Crow Books.
They specialize in stocking hard-to-find titles that you may not be able to get anywhere else, but also have bestsellers on hand as well.

Boffins Books

Nestled in the heart of Perth, Boffins Books has just about every kind of book you’re looking for.
It’s just down the escalators into a world of cookbooks, technical manuals, historical reads and the latest popular fiction. Their staff are passionate bookworms too so if you need a helping hand they’ll know where to look.
Elizabeth’s Bookshops

One of the oldest in Perth, Elizabeth’s Bookshop has been giving new homes to second-hand books for 48 years.
No idea what you’re looking for? That’s okay because here you can have a Blind Date With A Book. Each book is wrapped and labeled with mysterious clues alluding to the title inside so you can pick whichever looks the most intriguing.
New Edition Bookshop
41 High St, Fremantle WA 6160
Housed in an old little corner building on High Street, step into a bright world of books at New Edition Bookshop.
They’re home to books of all genres and a super cozy spot to waste away the hours browsing their collection. Have a look on their Facebook page for some recommendation posts to get inspired before you head in.
